Africa's largest canyon - A land of rugged landscapes and varied wildlife
The Fish River Canyon in the south of Namibia is the largest in Africa and second largest in the world. It’s only when you visit do you truly understand its size and beauty.
The canyon is the longest river in Namibia at some 160kms, and in places an impressive 27kms wide with its deepest point being some 550m. It’s said to be the second most visited attraction in Namibia, which has a lot to do with its closeness to south Africa. During the rains of the summer months the river flows but as the rains stop it becomes a chain of pools and lagoons.
Visiting can be added to any itinerary to Namibia, however due to the size of the country and ‘other’ highlights it’s worth making sure you plan for enough time so as not to feel like you’re driving all the time. Most visitors spend 3 nights in the Fish River which allows time to explore, hike in the canyon and fully appreciate it’s vastness.
